YOUR REPRESENTATIVE

Is the elected official in your electorate, regardless of political persuasion, actually representing you?

My personal experience has been that after making appointments to talk to politicians or their staff, they are not willing to consider any action, and only put forward what their party policy is. In my opinion therfore, they are representing their party, not you the constituent!

Is your elected representative a person chosen by electors within your electorate?

Has your elected representative worked full time outside of Politics or the Union Movement?

Does your elected representative genuinely believe they are working for the greater good of your electorate, or is it just a career choice with generous after politics benefits.

Once politicians were known to constituents. Prior to modern media, Town Hall meetings with the candidte were commonplace, and many candidates were personally known in the community. Politicians "images" are now media managed. I would not recognise my local politicians if I saw then in the street.

Be honest, did you vote for an individual last election, or did you follow the party card, or worse, vote informal? They say you get the politicians you deserve.

AS my father keeps reminding me of the quote :

"..Remember..The first duty of a politician is to get re-elected!"

So, is your elected representative serving you, or their own self interest?
