The Brain

To the best of my knowledge, all creatures have a brain.

In effect it is a “Super Computer” processing signals from all our senses (ears,eyes, nose, touch and nerves for example) usually faster than we “think” about it.

Survival Instincts

I am not qualified to say whether these are inherited, learnt or both.

“Instincts”, “Gut Feeling” or whatever we want to call it, I believe is the brain processing data ,when confronted by situations, faster than we are consciously analising.

We learn to discern and differentiate what is good for us and what is bad. A simple example is what we eat and what we don't eat. Consequently we discriminate.
